In this time of turmoil, torment, and terribly bad judgment, I offer that we who make the sounds that dot these pages of Encyclotronic are lucky to be able to express ourselves freely and share those expressions with one another. The American holiday of Thanksgiving is loaded with all sorts of political and religious notions that don't do much for me personally, but the idea of smiling over the few advantages that we all share does have its appeal to me. Thanks to one and all of you for making my life more fun and meaningful.
And, in the spirit of sharing a smile, I offer you all a listen to last year's album by Turkey Makes Me Sleepy (appropriate for Thanksgiving?). It's not ambient, but it is quite experimental, and it varies tremendously from "song" to "song." It's got moments of sweet, sour, and salty -- all the spices of life, and a bit of Dadaesque humor as well. I think it also demonstrates the miracle of how a 16-year-long association between three artists can continue to produce thought-provoking recordings.
Best Wishes, CIII

I'm pleased to announce my acceptance as a contributing composer to the catalog of Lynne Publishing's Shockwave Sound Royalty-Free music library. The contract is being drawn up as I write this, and I am extremely happy! My music will not only see distribution as Royalty Free, but also as consumer music; best of both worlds.

Rather cool machine. An example what you can accomplish with it.

release 15 November 2014 | A novice wrangler escorts the Precious Herd as it crosses Bone Desert. Will he be capable enough to guard it from hazardous threats, and lead the herd back to the safety of the city?
- Composed, performed, and recorded by Bernhard Wöstheinrich
- Drawings and title: Matt Howarth
- Post-production, mix and mastering by Markus Reuter at John’s Studio, Berlin
The Precious Herd, the latest release from Bernhard Wöstheinrich and Matt Howarth, is an audible exploration of an alien landscape… an ethereal invitation to explore the hauntingly beautiful terrain. You feel as if you know this place, yet with each step, you discover quite unexpected and delightful details. This discovery, the wonder, the beauty, keeps drawing you in further even though the hairs on the back of your neck hint that something slightly sinister is possibly slithering up behind you. You must trust, drop your guard, and continue. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve already got two impressive releases lined up for when my new netlabel launches in mid-January, but with the third potentially falling on the weekend of Burns Night, I thought it might be worth making a compilation album as a tribute to Scotland.Ideally, I’m looking for new and original pieces that evoke images of Scotland’s scenery, people, history and culture. It doesn’t necessarily have to sound Scottish, as long as Scotland was the inspiration.
I’d also like to involve non-musicians too. I’m hoping I can intersperse each track with a reading of one of Burns’ poems so, if you’re able to send a recording of yourself reading something by Burns, they’d be most welcome. Preference would have to be given to readers from Scotland, or with Scottish accents, but all are welcome.
