The Pleasure of Fear: Horror at Unsound

Horror is an essential element in modern music that aspires to break sonic boundaries and generate new spaces for expression and emotions. The Polish Unsound festival, celebrated every autumn in the cold climate of Kraków, knows that all to well, and that’s why the 2010 edition had the concept of horror as its central theme, with artists such as Ben Frost and Demdike Stare.

Todmorden 513 - Movement I by Markus Reuter

Markus Reuter's Todmorden 513 is a complex work of algorithmic composition of an hour's duration. Given Reuter's linguistic background, one might think that the title is an exercise in existential dread in German as "Tod" means "death" and "morden" means "to murder" - forming a truly grim portmanteau.

Devo Perform - What We Do - Live At The Warfield San Francisco Mar 18, 2011

Devo's recent concert at the Warfield in San Francisco featured a mix of their new album Somthing For Everybody as well as older material. Great mixture of visuals and music here along with a nice balance of minimal synths with minimal guitar and prominent real drums. The visual really express the lyrics to this song and video posted by tschak909 aka Thom.

YouTube Jazz, in a New Musical Mash-Up, and Online Collaboration

Israeli funk musician and producer Kutiman, creator of the famed Thru-You, is back with an encore. Once again, he’s mixing the best performances of YouTube into a single video. Calling it a “mash-up” is perhaps unfair: this is really mix and remix. It’s no different than laying down multiple tracks in a studio, except that the players were working independently in different parts of the world. “My Favorite Color” is a jazzy, soulful number, particularly carried by those incredible vocals on the original song “Green.” The rest is really arrangement, and it works pretty darned-near perfectly. (An occasional ragged rhythmic edge seems only fitting to the form.)

William Shatner on How Many Angels Fit on the Head of a Pin

Here is bit of way out electronics history. Check this AT&T promotional video from 1980 called "Microworld." The video covers the then burgeoning field of microprocessors accompanied a swell electronic music soundtrack. See more classic AT&T content at http://techchannel.att.com/a...

Pete Townsend Wishes he was Brian Eno

Here is an interesting bit of news from one of the icons of rock guitar, Pete Townsend. In a recent interview, he remarked that he would done things different were he starting out today. Commenting that we would not joined a band: “What would I have done differently?” Townshend said. “I would never have joined a band. Even though I am quite a good gang member and a good trooper on the road, I am bad at creative collaboration.” That's a pretty shocking response from the author of "My Generation," the anthem of Rock N' Roll youth for decades.
