Collaborative album by Jack Hertz & I.v.Martinez.

Posted by I.v. Martinez In: Albums

Just in time for Halloween, Argali Records is proud to release "Fantastic Planetscapes" by mutaHERTZ, which is the collaborative effort of Jack Hertz (jackhertz.com) and I.v.Martinez (trivm.bandcamp.com). Also featuring artwork by surrealist photographer/artist Ivan Vaclavik (www.vaclavik.eu), "Fantastic Planetscapes" is a heavy, spaced-out exploration into the depths of the stars, influenced by the 1973 movie "Fantastic Planet" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantastic_Planet).

Inspired by the film's soundtrack by Alain Goraguer and sound effects by Jean Guérin, Jack Hertz created a series of analog synth recording for use in collaborative efforts. These elements were then further remixed and processed by I.v.Martinez into the finished result. Thus the listener is thrust into vast and swiftly evolving soundscapes reminiscent of the vistas of unimaginable alien worlds and the strange intelligence that may populate them. An unsettling, yet meditative experience.

The Tapegerm page for the "Fantastic Planetscapes", featuring further information and the samples utilized in this project, can be found here (tapegerm.com/jack-hertz/projects/9/fantasic-planetscapes). Per the projects stipulation, this album is being released under a Creative Commons license CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 US.

I thought it would be a good idea to share what community music sites are around for sharing and promoting music to a wider audience. Here's a list of the ones I am currently aware of:

Electro-Music - http://electro-music.com

EMportal - http://www.emportal.info/

Hypnos - http://www.hypnos.com/smf/

Relaxed Machinery - http://relaxedmachinery.com/community/

Tapegerm - http://tapegerm.com/

Some of these are genre specific, some not. I will leave that up to you to decide what's right for you.

Please share any links you have to community music sites below.

"Nevermore" project brief/call for ambient tracks for release

RadHaus US (the studio's label) has begun a new project that we're calling Nevermore, which has turned into a surprisingly large and well received undertaking!

It starts with a field recording. The raw recording is somewhat crude, as you might expect; I only had my phone to do it at that time. The crows around here -- ravens, really -- don't just "CAW", they have this interesting percussive purr, and I recorded some of it, along with some other sounds: A dog barking, a distant train, etc.
The brief is this: use those sounds, and the other stuff in the folder attached here, to build an ambient track. I read "The Raven" and also recorded some very short vocal stems, but you don't have to use everything.
The only real requirement is that it's not TOO dark, as this audience tends toward the lighter side. Some dark is okay, of course, given the subject matter. Just don’t make me want to open my veins during the review process or broadcast. ;-)
Also, because RadHaus is positioning itself as an audiophile label, we'll want pretty high-resolution files for your stereo mix down (minimum 44100 Hz sample rate--preferably 96000--24-bit AIFF or FLAC), and feel free to play with "spaces" in your mix.
There's been enough interest that two things might happen:
It is likely to spill over into a second show (the first one is scheduled for 15 November) and I'd love to release this on the new RadHaus audiophile label if you're interested, as part of a series.
The field recordings are the two "Dog Days" files and "Sunday Afternoon" and you don't have to use everything. The rest are tiny sung stems and my reading of Poe's "The Raven". The stems VOX 01-05 can work together or not as you wish. Use what you want, leave what you don't. Please don't delete the files, as others are using them.
The final track can be anything up to an hour in length. Please let me know ASAP if you can commit to doing the 15 November episode of At Water's Edge.
