"Polysex" by Stahlfabrik.

2014-09-12

On the following link you can find Stahlfabrik's latest release. It's called "Polysex", a pun with Korg Polysix.

In his own words: "the aim of Polysex is to shake and/or develop the listener's sound perception, therefore refrain from listening to it if you are one of those who always take things for granted."

If you dare listen to this sonic experiment, you can find it here:

Anti War Recordings

2014-09-11

Considering today's new developments in USA military plans and the overall failures of its military interventions over the years ~ and my ever-growing disgust with how many lives and how much money have been wasted in the process of executing such activities, I offer these two historical Taped Rugs recordings for your perusal...

I ask in vain, how many other ways are there that my leaders could spend my tax dollars to truly enhance the human experience on this planet?...

Middlemarch - Wolf Hall

2014-09-09

Posted by Five Minutes Alone In: Albums

Middlemarch is a modern-classical/ambient project by Ross Baker and Five Minutes Alone. It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce that our debut album Wolf Hall is released on Time Released Sound.

For TRS045 we are very pleased to bring you this full length album from Middlemarch... aka Dimitris Avramidis/piano and Ross Baker/electronics. A beautiful melange of melodic and atmospheric, pastorally infused and electronically treated and overlaid piano ambiance, that is inspired in part by the novel Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel.

This dreamy moody soundtrack to the lives of those that lived, breathed and conspired in Tudor England, comes packaged in the form of a mounted, original 8” x “10 collage, each in a fold out, stand up sleeve/frame. Each slightly differently sized collage is made from the full page photos of a huge, 80 year old book on early tudor architecture, and is collaged ala Max Ernst with vintage prints of birds, animals, and other slightly surreal elements... they are of course all uniquely stamped/marked/treated with the usually attempted TRS flair! Hanging from the back of the display folder is the factory pressed disc in a collaged envelope, along with a hand printed insert on antique ledger paper. The whole display package comes in a large, hand assembled and ribbon tied envelope made from deluxe, hand block printed wallpaper, by Paper Mills. Extremely evocative!

This deluxe version will be available in an edition of only 85 copies. There is also a beautiful, standard digipak version in an edition of 150 copies.

As usual, the copy you receive may or not be one of the ones pictured! Collages and packaging by Colin Herrick and Maria Chenut...

Anybody Here Use Score Writing Midi ?

2014-09-04

Hey Fellow Pioneers Of Pulse...

I just thought I'd probe a bit into your compositional techniques and share something of mine.  Back in the mid-1990's  my stepson gave me a computer loaded with an Aptiva software thing called Midisoft Music Mentor Recording Session.  It's a score writer that's very intuitive and easy to use.  I've been able to incorporate it into all of the subsequent computers that I have possessed over the years (although it doesn't quite fit right on my screen anymore).  I've used this thing extensively to create and transcribe, and it has provided many of my works with a "signature" sound.  Mostly I've used it in conjunction (multi-track) with other sound generators (voice, "real" instruments, non-instruments, field recordings, samples, etc.).   However, I recorded a couple of albums back in the 1990's (released on cassette) on which all of the sounds were composed with this device.

I have a friend/collaborator who uses a rather expensive midi scorewriter called Sibelius.  And I have another friend who actually served as a recording engineer to capture the sounds for a scorewriter too (the name of this product escapes me now...).

Anyway, here I shall share one of my own all Midi Music Mentor albums (people say this stuff sounds like Zappa/Synclavier sort of...).  Note that the pieces which I released on the actual cassette appear in the streaming box and below as mp3s, but the midi files themselves are also archived here -- listen to both if you are curious -- the midi will adapt to whatever sound card that your computer uses and will likely have clearer sound quality on your speakers.

I am curious to listen to anyone else's music composed with a midi score writer of any sort.  Please share, and talk about your experiences, thanks!

The Stratomusica Suite.

2014-09-03

I'm back.

New season, new review.

This time a fantastic joint venture between two different generations of Polish artists in the electronic/prog front: Przemysław Rudź and Jozef Skzrek.

The music was inspired by a scientific mission that plans to send a balloon to the stratosphere and record the views of our planet from high above.
